Mango Ice Cream ~ Without Ice-Cream maker

Not a single summer passes by without having ice cream. Well, I wouldn't mind having it during chilled weather too. But the flavour of fresh mangoes in ice creams can be enjoyed only in summer.

When I say homemade ice cream, it can be as creamier and rich as the store bought ones and No, you need not have an ice cream maker to make one like that. It's pretty simple . Do try it and enjoy it. You can thank me later :).

Aam Ki Launji / Sweet and Sour Mango Pickle

We are so found of pickle, esp. mango pickle. Now, we have a set of mango pickle that we make every mango season. So last mango season, we thought why not try different pickles out of the raw mangoes. And me and my husband put forth suggestions of pickles that we might have tasted from friends, families or restaurants and like them.

My husband is not very fond of sweets. So I was amazed when he suggested Aam ki lauji that we had at a restaurant in Pune. It was new to him. The sweet and sour pickle seemeed to make his mouth watery, which was a surprising fact for me. You know these men, you can never predict anything ... he he. Anyways, I was happy that he suggested it, because I love Aam ki Lauji and knowing the fact that someone else also is interested in it, would make me happy to try it.

Mango Lassi

The time when you come in home from the scorching heat in this summer, all you would need is to gulp down something cold, refreshing and filling. This is one absolute delight for such occasions.

Summers can't pass by without us indulging in these mangoes. So how about enjoying some mangoes in the form of mango lassi. Lassi and Mangoes are always our favorite. So this is just like 2 in 1 drink for us.

Mango Iced tea

Have you ever had mango iced tea? Unlike the usual iced tea it has the flavours of mango in it. Now if you are a die hard fan of mangoes you would know what I mean and would be almost at the verge of trying it as soon as you can. But let me warn you, they are addictive. So control yourself.

You could very well make it with preserved mango pulp. But there is something different and fresh feeling when you make it right from the scratch with those irresistible juicy mangoes that are available during this summer season. So why wait for it to get canned or preserved to try it. Go for making it this summer season.

Aam panna - Spiced Raw Mango Drink !

Have you seen the ad of Paperboat? Their ad with the tune of Malgudi days would make anyone go nostalgic about those good old days and go buy one of their drinks. Atleast it worked on me, esp. when the cashier keeps repeating everytime I am there, saying there is an offer on it and I am eligible for it. Ahh, I fell for it one day and then the next day and then the next..

That was last year. And that's when the Maggi tragedy happened. I decided to give up packaged items as much as possible. But by then I was addicted to Aam Panna. So the next grocery shopping I got mangoes to make it at home myself. And when the cashier offered it again, it was hard to refuse, but I did.

Mango Shrikhand

The only cousin who had got her vacations falling during the same time of the year as ours was Anu. On one such vacation, she always used to keep mentioning about Shrikhand and how much she loved it. Now I had no clue about it. And then I saw the advertisement of Amul Shrikhand, which otherwise had never seemed to have got attention from my end earlier. Somehow I never had Shrikhand made by Amul but yes other local companies. I have loved it ever since.

Summer can't be said goodbye without having eaten enough mangoes, simply diced or as Mango Shake or in any other form. When I mentioned about making Shrikhand, Jacob wasn't anxious about it even though he has never had it before. But when Jordan turned 4 months, I wanted to make something. Not big, but something simple yet special. Hence, this post happened. So when Jacob came back from work , I gave his share to him(I couldn't wait untill he was back, so ate as soon as it was ready :)) and he didn't even bother to ask me if I needed it (usually he does ask) but scrapped off every bit of it. So its gonna be made more frequent on the coming weeks before the mangoes disappear from the market.

Mango Shake / Mango Milkshake

Summer is almost here. Do you have any plans for this summer? Well, with the past year's experience I think we would keep ourselves locked inside rather than going out. Last year, we kept running away from sun. It was pretty hot. Atleast, we felt so. Five minutes in the sun was like sedative for me. I would fall off to sleep as soon as we would be back home, all tanned and burnt. I wonder how harsh it would be this time. If at all there was a weather moderate enough and remained the same all through out the year. Ahh, but then again, we would complain...human nature.

Now that mangoes are in season, I thought I should do this post. I must admit, I really miss the taste and smell of mangoes back home. The mangoes that we get here are no way close to comparison what we get there.
