Kerala Fish Fry

Fish fry is one of the best thing to go with rice and moru kachiyathu and a stir fry. The only thing I hate about it is the smell that keeps lingering in the whole house after its done, making our clothes and bags also smell of it. Otherwise it is just super addictive.

At any point of the day, I would choose to go for fish fry rather than fish curry and so would Jacob and Jordan . They are so easy to fall in love with. Its so hard to drag my kido home after school or after play in the park. But bribing him to have fish fry for lunch/dinner after we get back home, would instantly turn him into a sweetheart who would listen to his mama :D. It is just so addictive and yum to have it with some rice and moru kachiyathu. If you do have a stir fry also to go with it, it can turn into a feast.

Meen Pollichathu ~ Kerala style Baked Fish

One thing I miss the most here in the US, is a ventilated kitchen. Whatever you cook, the smell just remains within the house. If its some baked goodies, its ok because they leave the smell of the essence. But what if it is fish? Fishy smell is not really pleasant, isn't it? So we have almost given up frying fish, but the malayali in me can't resist it when I see the fish lined at the Indian/Asian stores here. So we indulge in these occasionally.

I remember having meen pollichathu long back, made by my mom's cousin, when we had come down to Kerala during our vacation. Those were delicious. I wanted to try it for so long.

Fish Cutlet

Cutlets have been consistently on our menu for special occasions. Every Christmas and Easter also calls in for its preparation. This Easter we were in the middle of relocating and settling down that we hardly got a chance to cook at home - oh wait we didn't have an apartment then :). Well, since one chance of having cutlets had been dropped, we made it for tea yesterday.

These crispy little cutlets have always been a guest pleaser. Well, it has to be. Served with onion salad during meals or tomato sauce for snacks or as an appetizer these perfectly blend in and can be had any time of the day. Unlike meat cutlets, fish cutlet is easy to make, due to less cook time for fish. That is another reason why you should try it :).
