Healthy Tailgating Tips/ Recipes for the football season !

It's the football season, which calls for tailgating parties. The fun just gets doubled when watching the game is paired with food. And if the food is healthy; that won't pack on the pounds, its an instant hit. So this post is all dedicated to healthy tailgating tips/ recipes. Hope I would be able to inspire you with my snack-spiration :).

Tailgating is incomplete without a Burger or hotdogs. When the layer of patty gets interestingly different in taste, ingredients and health wise; it has to get a thumbs up. This Burger with fish Patty would make an amazing item for tailgating. And ya, it wouldn't let you go too full unlike cheese burgers, that you can't enjoy other items on the menu. Another option could be to go with Stuffed buns (with Chicken filling) . They lack the greens, unlike Burgers, but they are less messy to be served as well as to have. The Corn on the cob could pair well with the burger. Slightly sweet and juicy yet has the spiciness of paprika and sourness of lemon - This simple corn on the cob is a blend of possibly many flavors that one could ask for. You could also scoop out the corn and serve them in the glass with spoon.

Now, coming to the drinks. You would need to consider something other than just beer to serve as a drink. And serving this Iced Lemon Tea is such a healthier alternative to coke. So refreshing. It could also pair well with this Pizza and the Baked chicken thighs, another options you could give a shot.

Corn on the Cob

My love for corn has always remain constant. And I have so many fond memories associated to it. As kids we used to have it every time they came in the market. But it was the grilled version. Later when I was in Pune, everyday, when we got back from work, as soon as we stepped out of the shuttle, there would be a lady vendor selling grilled corn. Our choices for snack would be either those grilled corn or vada pav or chaats. Then when I moved to Bangalore, again these corn appeared right outside our college, but in a different form - Boiled and seasoned with salt and pepper. I used to love that version too.

My father loves corn on the cob. He had mentioned it a couple of times when we were dining out. I so wanted to make it for him while he was here. Meena Kumar's post also reminded me to make it. But I don't know, I so got caught up with other stuff that I couldn't make it for him. Finally, during their last few days of stay with us, I made it a point that I would make it for him, for sure. Proactively, bought it but then everyday plans kept changing and ended up not making it. So when we made it after they left, I kept feeling guilty for not making it for him. Anyways, there is always a next time, unless the corn disappears from the universe. Well, that is one way of consoling myself for now.

Pig in a blanket ~ Super Bowl Special

The first year I was here in US, I hardly knew the game and my husband made a big deal about the Super Bowl. We may not be regular at watching the whole season but the finals would be never missed. We stayed home and I made snacks to munch(the only excitement part for me) while we watched the game. I learnt a bit about it and then having watched it, it turned out to be exciting.

The next year, I too joined the excitement club along with Jacob. I was excited to cook as well as watch the game. So thats how we made Meat Balls , last year. This is the third year in a row that the excitement continues and I somehow think if it has become a tradition for us. Nah.... Because, this time it was me who got excited and reminded Jacob of the so called 'tradition' that we were starting to develop. So I am wondering if next year either of us would remember. Or may be Jacob would have cleverly decided to not remind me, else he would be dragged into the kitchen to help me :P.
