Indri Appam / Pesaha Appam and Paal

I might have already spoken to you about the  tradition that we followed on the Maundy Thursday as kids. It's basically visiting every house and taking part in the breaking of the bread ceremony post church. It was real fun. My brother used to be the Indriappam kothiyan and I would love vattayappam. But now I like both. I guess taste changes over the years. Jacob and Jordan both prefer vattayappam over Indriappam. So we make both Indriappam and vattayappam and hot cross buns for our Maundy Thursday celebration. And yes, Pesaha Paal is a must. And it is liked by all.

This Indriappam is from our last Pesaha. Yes, as usual I have been delaying the post and then I thought I should post it atleast before next Pesaha to share the recipe. So here it is . Have a blessed Pesaha and a very happy Easter in advance. oh ya, and you could add may be a small piece of turmeric to get hold of Judas in your group. The person who gets the piece with turmeric is called Judas. Just for fun :).

Hot Cross Buns

When I was a kid, Maundy Thursday had always been so eventful. In the small township that I was brought up, there was a small church but every special event would be made memorable with the involvement of all in some way or the other. On Maundy Thursday, at our home, we would be assigned some clean up work while mummy would be busy preparing the Pesaha Appam.

In the evening, after the mass, a huge gang of family friends would go to each others house to break the bread as per tradition. Now this gang being a big one, by the time we would be done with a visit of every house, it would be midnight and we would all be so full. It was so much fun to be a part of that gang with so many friends. After, moving out of that township, every Pesaha / Maundy Thursday reminds me of those years.

Kerala style Fish Molee/Moly

Someone asked me the other day if I live on Palaharam(snacks), since my blog had been filled with recipes for snacks but hardly any main/side dish. It then struck me, oh ya, I have been posting only about snacks, well....mostly. If you too have been meaning to ask me the same, the answer is No :).We do make Indian meals everyday at home, but somehow I have never posted any recipe here.

As a child I was a very picky eater. My mom had a hard time making me eat. But the evening snack time was my favorite and I would eat to compensate the main 3 meals of the day. So my mom made sure that she had something heavy for me then. May be that was my love for Palaharam(the evening snack) which is still on, that it didn't take me too long to decide my blog's name too :).
