Manga Chammanthi / Mango Chutney

For me, some Moru kachiyathu and manga chammanthi is enough to have stomach full of rice. I wouldn't even bother any other curry not served with rice. It is just perfect to tickle the tastebuds that you would never even feel the absence of any other curry to go by the side for rice.

I am sure, anyone who has had it atleast once would never forget the taste of it and wouldn't say no to it. They are just perfect to pair with rice.

After a very heavy Sadya, we usually go light in terms of cooking as well as the intake of food. This Chammanthi is just perfect for such days.

Ingredients
  1. 1 small raw mango, peeled and cut into cubes
  2. 1 tsp of finely chopped ginger
  3. 1 shallot, sliced
  4. 2-3 green chillies, cut into small pieces
  5. 1 cup of grated coconut
  6. Salt to taste

Method
  • Take all the ingredients in a grinder. Coarsely, grind everything together without adding water. You may need to open the grinder a couple of times to give it a mix with a spoon, untill everything gets ground well.
  • Remove it into a serving bowl. Serve it with rice.
Tips
  1. I peeled off the skin of the mango. You may choose to keep the skin or remove it.
  2. You could add red chillies instead of green chillies if you wish to.
  3. If preparing the chammanthi in a traditional mortar-pestle i.e. arakallu, then first grind the coconut and mango followed by the rest of the ingredients.
