End of February and I thought they were done with the snowing...but guess, I was wrong...

Uzhunnu Vada / Medhu Vada / Lentil Dumplings

Uzhunnu Vada - yet another favorite snack either during tea time or with idli/dosa in the morning. For a south indian, if you are out looking in for a restaurant for breakfast, what would be the item that you would have pre ordered in mind - Idli-vada. Yes, any restaurant that you get into would have it as the first item on their menu. And the server would also recite the menu starting with idli- vada, dosa-vada, masala dosa....

I have made these vadas a number of times.These are easy to make if you are not bothered about the hole that is supposed to be present in the center of these vadas. I never used to get the consistency of the batter right. Well, I should not call it a batter as, these get its shape only if, the mixture has the consistency between a dough and a batter. I still don't think I have gained that perfection, but atleast the hole is there,  is what I say to myself :).

Tiramisu Charlotte Cake

Who does not like surprises? Well I know one person, and that is my husband. Knowing the fact, I kept him informed that he could expect a Tiramisu on his birthday. Who would want to annoy him on his birthday by doing what he does not like(surprise).

We both are not a fan of Italian. However, surprisingly he is very fond of Tiramisu. I remember our courtship days when we used to chat to get to know of our likes/dislikes. Every time while the conversation moved into the dessert section, his favorite would turn out to be Tiramisu. And he once actually asked me if I knew to make it. I was like - hello, you would be grateful to me if I cook you proper rice and dal :). It took me 2 years to give it a try.

Black Forest Gateau

I loooove Black Forest. We used to have these available at the snack kiosk at college. My friend, Divya and I used to be the greatest addicts of black forest, in our gang. We tried controlling ourselves from not having it but no luck. Finally they stopped getting it which did help us to cut down our consumption of this cake. This cake had been on my to-bake list for so long. But I was just waiting for a reason to make it. And so our second wedding anniversary arrives giving me a reason to try it and stop procrastinating it.

I had been in a hunt to figure out the perfect recipe, stores to get fresh cherries etc. for some time now, which luckily got unnoticed by my husband and hence helped me keep it a secret. I shopped the ingredients and baked the cake while he was away for work. When he got back, I tried hard to keep my enthusiasm low which in fact failed. I won't blame myself. Who wouldn't get super excited about their first so called decoration cake.

Meat Balls (Asian Style)

I had never followed the game, football, untill Super Bowl 2012. Thats when my husband explained it to me to the best of his knowledge. Since then, it had seemed to be interesting to me. We used to go to the High School that is next to our apartment, whenever they would host the game. And one such visit helped us understand the game even better. Grandfather of one of the players, graciously volunteered to explain the game to us, when he saw us clueless, at times :).

When the hype was on for the Super Bowl this year, it somehow hit me this time. May be because, now that I know the basics, I can bother to sit down to watch the game. Now....we needed some snacks for the big game. Though chicken wings/ chicken thighs is the best fit for this occasion, I wanted to try the meat ball recipe that I had come across recently. As a contingency factor, we did buy some chicken wings too just to leave us with something to munch on if the meat balls go wrong :).
