X'mas special - Fruit cake

It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago....
                               - Andy Williams

Ho ho ho...it's X'mas time :).

Who doesn't love X'mas season? Its the most happiest time in the entire year, having got time-off from work, vacations, getting together for feasts, lights and decorations all around you etc. This time we are having a white christmas and so the best activity to indulge in, is to arrange feasts. But any feast would be incomplete without a fruit cake, accompanied with wine.

Holiday season special - Gingerbread Men cookies

An army of gingerbread men were baked in my oven, the other day. They smelled so good, with all the spices that goes into it, and left an aroma in the whole house, that it turned out to be difficult for me to keep it a secret from my husband.

These cookies are liked by children a lot, may be because of its shape. For us too, it was not less exciting to have these - look at them and give a smile in return and then the hands were gone, then the legs and then the head. I sound like a killer :P. Well, the most interesting part is that these cookies are spicy 'n' sweet and the blend really goes well in this cold month of december.

Sukhiyan

Sukhiyan, yet another well known tea time snack in Kerala, had been on my to-make list for quite some time now. Finally, I succeeded in checking it off from the list. These snacks are found in most tea shops in Kerala, strategically arranged in small glass cupboards, right next to Ethakka Boli, making people tempt to have it.

My mom used to make these at home, whenever we would be home for vacation. Home made snacks have its own advantages, because you know that these are fried in fresh set of oil unlike in tea shops. Moreover, you get to decide the way you would like to make it; the type of oil you want to use ; how sweet it should be etc... etc. All said, I had to make it at home, as we don't get it anywhere around here :P. Turns out, the only thing that you should be careful about while making it, is not to overcook the grams.
